The Russian Federation ceased to exist on May 16, 2024 by declaration no. 213-H of the Eurasian Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Eurasian Union, formally dissolving the economic union, and effectively acknowledging the independence of the various breakaway republics of the former Russian Federation.

The announcement made by President Vladimir Putin that he would be stepping down from the political spectrum upon the completion of his fourth term sent ripple effects throughout the Russian Federation. From January to May, dozens of republics and minority enclaves had seceded from the Federation. The collapse of the Russian Federation also marked an end to the Little Cold War. The Revolutions of 2023 and the end of the Russian Federation led to the end of decades-long hostility between North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Russia, which had been the defining feature of the Little Cold War.

Russia's economy had collapsed in previous years due to crippling sanctions from the US and EU and the decline in demand for commodities that made up the bulk of Russia's export driven economy during the Late 2010s Recession. The surge in US military presence on their western border overextended Russia militarily while the Biden and Harris administrations funded a covert war in the Caucasus through Turkey and Azerbaijan. After the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Russian public was staging regular riots against the Putin regime and military defections began to accelerate by late 2022. In 2023-4, following a series of riots and a military coup, the Russian Federation collapsed, ending the Little Cold War.
