The Union of Patria Grande was an intergovernmental military and regional economic alliance between several Latin American states during the Mexican-American Cold War. It held its origins as a direct successor to the Union of South American Nations before World War III.
The UPG constituted a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party. As an economic bloc the UPG included common regulatory and free trade policies observed by its members, as well as economic assistance and free travel for education.
