The Balkanization Era was a period of political instability in the Eastern Hemisphere following the Guardiola Incident. The exact starting date for the era is often debated due to the Mexican-American Cold War occuring co-existently, however, many do consider the collapse of the Mediterranian Union to be the initial date of the period, while other historians claim that the Balkanization Era is a part of the Mexican-American Cold War.
The largest region the Balkanization Era affected was Europe, as civil unrest would turn into successionist movements and civil wars. The lack of direct trade relations between the former members of the MU would cause the United States and Mexico to come and aid the former states as a means of attempting to return to the original trade relations.
One of the largest outcomes during and after the Balkanization Era was the establishment of the Intermarium, which was started by Poland as a means of securing regional stability in Eastern Europe that could do better in terms of stability than the pre-existing Visegrad Group had done over the last few decades. Many historians would never expect that the Intermarium would end up playing a key role as a military alliance in the largest war of the 22nd century, the Third Mexican-American War.
